Recently on the New York Tmes' Shifting Careers blog Sarah Milstein shared her Twitter know how. What's near the top of her tip list? "Show respect," writes Millstein. "Another way to share ideas -- and your respect for other people in your field -- is to "retweet" something interesting somebody else has Twittered. Tim O'Reilly, founder of O'Reilly Media (for which I'm co-writing a research report on Twitter), does this frequently and to great effect. Simply start your message with "Retweeting@username" and then paste in the original message (the @ symbol is the Twitter convention for responding or referring to other users).

Milstein also recommends engaging customers. She writes "Run contests, solicit feedback and thank customers for supportive messages. Jetblue does all three. (By the way, JetBlue doesn't identify the person or people who Twitter under its account, but best practices suggest you should.)" Read the rest of Milstein's blog here.

Do you have a Twitter tip Milstein didn't mention? Post it here by Sept. 16, 2008 and you just might win an O'Reilly book!

Speaking of winning an O'Reilly book. Thanks to everyone who weighed on on Chrome in our recent FYI blogpost. Tony Williams, who wrote--Chrome also makes a further move towards minimising the UI and chrome. The Omnibox is a great idea, moving the tabs to the top is another good UI move. Less UI clutter leaves more room for the web application inside the browser. I keep on noticing other small UI improvements and appreciating them - the ability to pop a tab back in to the window I draggedit out of is neat, for example--wins an O'Reilly book of his choice for his comments. Thank you and congratulations.
