Scott Berkun, the bestselling author of The Myths of Innovation, discusses how innovators and inventors get their ideas in Guy Kawasaki's popular new business book--Reality Check: The Irreverent Guide to Outsmarting, Outmanaging, and Outmarketing Your Competition--which is currently climbing the Amazon charts.
"It's a honor to make it into Guy's compilation of best wit and wisdom," notes Berkun in an email.
Kawasaki's new book features an interview with Berkun. In it, the Seattle area innovation expert explains to readers what is and isn't true about commonly held ideas about invention. For example, Kawasaki asks, why do creative thinkers and inventors often face rejection?
"It's human nature--we protect ourselves from change," Berkun answers. "We like to think we're progressive, but every wave of innovation has been much slower than we're told. The telegraph, the telephone, the PC, and the Internet all took decades to develop from ideas into things ordinary people used. As a species we're threatened by change and it takes a long time to convince people to change their behavior, or part with their money."
