Last night, Sanders Kleinfeld made his debut on Jeopardy! and bet it all (well, almost all of it) on the Final Jeopardy! question to win!
Originally from Summit, New Jersey, Sanders now calls Cambridge, Massachusetts home. He has been with O'Reilly since 2004 and excelled in a number of roles, including Production Editor and Head First editor. He currently works as a technology specialist in the Publishing Services group.
After trying out for Jeopardy! twice (once for the Teen Tournament), the third time was the charm in May of 2007. "This December, I got a phone call out of the blue asking if I wanted to be on Jeopardy. Of course I said yes!" Sanders said. The taping took place in Los Angeles the week of January 20 for this week's broadcast. "Overall, it was a really positive experience," Sanders said with a smile. Although he felt very confident about his abilities, there were three categories that worried him the most: sports, the Bible, and potent potables. Last night the final untouched category in Double Jeopardy!--"His Pro Team Right Before"--almost stumped him completely until Alex Trebek read the clue "...before Babe Ruth played for the Yankees." The answer: the Red Sox, of course! "I knew I had to get that question right or I'd never be able to show my face in the Cambridge office again." laughed Sanders.
Although he can't tell us how successful he was on Jeopardy! this week, Sanders joked that he might share some of his winnings with the endangered tarsiers. These tiny endangered primates live on islands in Southeast Asia and are considered one of the most popular O'Reilly animals (found on the covers of Learning the vi and Vim Editors and Unix in a Nutshell. The tarsier is often considered O'Reilly's unofficial mascot.
We wish Sanders good luck as a returning Jeopardy! champion tonight!
